Free Peering Hosting Project

This initiative will assign addresses from a non-transit IP address block to APE/WIX connected hosts who have reason to limit the distribution of their content. The reasons include:

  1. Contractual Obligation - TVNZ for instance is interested in streaming, but copyrights asserted by the proprietors of the material they wish to stream, compell TVNZ to limit that distribution to NZ (as much as is possible). Content served from a non-transit IP can only be accessed by WIX/APE participants
  2. Cost Concerns - Servers of large volume content (again TVNZ is an example) will be unable to make the content available freely if they are concerned about potential metered traffic

This proposal has received enthusiastic support from some signficant content providers.

If you have content which you have decided not to serve due to transit costs, talk to us about a peering-only service.
