"direct connection"


A direct connection in this context is one that provides the participants with the ability to find each other with the absolute minimum of routing, for the purpose of exchanging routing information and subsequently traffic.

This can be provided by a circuit or exchange switch fabric.

In technical terms is it a "Layer 2" connection, where TCP/IP is a "Layer 3" protocol.
